We believe in the intelligence of complex natural systems & we seek to model the multifaceted interconnectivity & inherent stability found in the healthy natural ecosystems on our planet.
With modelled ecology, when done right, the aesthetic beauty of the garden is an emergent quality of a interconnected system in dynamic equilibrium, similar to the way that a natural ecosystem in an intact functional state is extremely beautiful, not because somebody placed all the elements in an aesthetic composition but as a result of a diversity of species functioning symbiotically in balance.
With this philosophy, we understand that humans are not separate from the environments we live in. In fact, we see humans as an extremely important 'keystone species' of the ecosystems we live amongst. The way we choose to interact with the ecosystem can have an enormous top-down impact on the entire system. With a nuanced vision of our place in out own gardens, we can develop a very satisfying relationship with our gardens & the wider ecosystem & can impact things in a very positive way. By understanding these nuances & performing specific functions at the correct moments throughout the year, we can create dynamic gardens that require relatively little maintenance & have a beauty that is way beyond anything we can design for purely aesthetic reasons.
